Paul Roos (Australian Rules Footballer)
Paul Roos (born 27 June 1963) is a former Australian rules football coach who coached the Sydney Swans and Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). As a player, he represented and during the 1980s and 1990s. A versatile key position player, Roos was a strong mark who was excellent at ground level, and in his prime was rated the best footballer in Australia. He was one of the Fitzroy Lions' finest players in its final years, and was named at centre half back in Fitzroy's Team of the Century. In his 17 seasons of League football, he was only reported once, for abusive language, and was found not guilty. Roos was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2005. He has won many accolades throughout his career: he was named All-Australian seven times; received the league's most valuable player (MVP) award; and represented Victoria on 14 occasions in State of Origin. Paul Roos (rugby Union)
Paul Johannes Roos (30 October 1880 – 22 September 1948) (also known as ''Oom Polla'' – Afrikaans for "Uncle Polla", "Polla" being a pet name for "Paul") was one of the first South African Springbok rugby union captains and led the first South African rugby team to tour overseas – to Britain in 1906. Roos was born near the South African town of Stellenbosch on 30 October 1880 and completed his education there. A devout Christian, Roos was a popular rugby player and was chosen by his own teammates to captain the 1906 tour. Throughout the tour he saw the campaign as an attempt to improve the relationship between his fellow countrymen and the British after the events of the Second Boer War. Paul Roos Gymnasium
Paul Roos Gymnasium is a public, dual medium (Afrikaans & English) high school for boys in the town of Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa, and opened on the 1st of March 1866 as Stellenbosch Gymnasium. It is the 12th oldest school in the country. History In 1910, the school was renamed Stellenbosch Boys' High School and old boy Paul Roos became the sixth rector of the school where he served for thirty years. In 1946 the school moved to the new buildings in Krigeville and was renamed Paul Roos Gymnasium after Paul Roos, old boy and captain of the first Springbok team, was himself a teacher at the school, and was the school's rector from 1910 to 1940, after which the school was renamed in his honour. A notable characteristic of the school is its ''gees'' (Afrikaans for ''spirit'') and their famous fight song "Old boys of Paul Roos" which is the melody of ''Flower of Scotland'' in remembrance of the first three Scottish rectors, which they sing with their old boys. Paul Ross
Paul Ross (born 31 December 1956) is an English television and radio presenter, journalist and media personality. He is the son of Martha Ross and the elder brother of Jonathan Ross. Early life Growing up in outer east London, Ross was educated at Norlington School for Boys, and later read English at the University of Kent. Realising he would not be able to follow the academic career he favoured, "an English lecturer at a polytechnic", he commenced training as a journalist at the University of Exeter and subsequently started his career with the ''Western Times'' in Exeter in 1982. Career Television Ross became a researcher at London Weekend Television before becoming an editor for ''The Six O'Clock Show'' and ''The London Programme''. He worked as the series editor on series 3 and 4 of Channel 4's magazine style programme '' The Word'', and became executive producer for series 5.
